Holy Covenant United Methodist Church has a rich legacy of embracing, honoring, and participating in the LGBTQIA+ community. Being a Reconciling Congregation is an accomplishment and a source of great pride.

  • They have celebrated same-gender marriage until the early 1980s, when it was referred to as a “civil union.”
  • They led funerals and provided ministry to partners and families throughout the HIV/AIDS epidemic while the majority of churches would not have.
  • In 1990, they joined the ranks of the earliest Reconciling Congregations and took a leading role in the struggle for marriage equality.
  • They still fight for LGBTQIA+ people’s complete inclusion and involvement in the Church at all levels today.

Holy Covenant United Methodist Church understand that the United Methodist Church’s Book of Discipline and their mission to treat everyone equitably are at odds.

As disciples of Jesus Christ, they are also unambiguous about our purpose:

  • to look for God
  • love everyone
  • transform the world

Holy Covenant United Methodist Church reaffirm their dedication to the United Methodist Church and keep pushing for changes in the denomination regarding same-sex marriage and LGBTQIA+ ordination. Thye still declare that everyone is eligible for the grace and love of God

What is the Methodist Covenant?

  • Every year, Methodists celebrate the blessings God has bestowed upon them
  • reaffirm their commitment to giving God their lives
their decisions during the Covenant Service

While September marks the start of the Methodist year, most churches celebrate their services in the New Year.

What is the Difference Between Methodist and United Methodist?

  • Because the Church of England is no more capable to meet the requirements of the American people.
  • John Wesley appointed two superintendents in 1784, founding the United Methodist Church (UMC), the oldest and largest Methodist organization.
  • Although it is not precisely accurate, numerous individuals refer to people who belong to The United Methodist Church as Methodists.

What are the Three Main Beliefs of Methodists?

Three primary fundamental principles are held by Methodists among their many other beliefs:

Holy Trinity

Methodists hold that there is only one God, manifested in three different forms:

  • the Father
  • the Son
  • the Holy Spirit.

Christian Perfection

The need of Christian perfection is emphasized in this important John Wesleyan teaching. It defines excellence as “perfect love” for God and other people.

Significance of God’s Mercy

Methodists hold that everyone can receive God’s grace, which is necessary for redemption.

  • Methodists also think that holy Spirit is currently among us because Jesus has brought us back to God.
  • The Holy Spirit empowers and leads us when we go about our lives, assisting us in communicating with and praying to God.
  • He also helps us grow in our belief and as people of God.
  • Neither do they believe that saints can act as intermediaries between God and us, nor do we pray to them.

According to United Methodist doctrine (1 Timothy 2:5-6a): “There is only one God; there is also a single mediator between God and humanity, Christ Jesus, himself human who offered himself as a ransom for all.”
